7 Week Crazy Road Trip- Trippin’ Momma

Momma Is Flippin’ Exhausted

We just completed the longest road trip ever! 7 weeks, 10 states, and over 4000 miles with a toddler is definitely an accomplishment. I had no plan and I didn’t know what the heck I was doing but it was all a part of the adventure. A few weeks ago, I was frustrated and scared. My divorce was costing me a small fortune and we weren’t doing much of anything but bouncing from furnished rental to furnished rental on Airbnb.

A few months prior we had sold all our possessions, sold our home, and set off for an adventure around the world. After coming home from a month in Puerto Rico, we grew stagnant. My life was not looking the way I had envisioned. To be honest, I was letting fear control me. I suffer from extreme anxiety among other things, and I kept making every excuse for why I was sticking around Austin. Actually, we almost bought a house, and my middle child almost went back to public school. Yep!

Out of nowhere, I decided we needed to hop in the FJ Cruiser and hit the road. I booked two places, one in New Mexico and one in Colorado weeks apart and I had no set plan. This would turn into the craziest, longest, most fun, wildest, most ridiculous road trip ever. For one, I had never driven with the toddler for more than two hours by myself. I planned to push this to 4 or 5 hours a day this trip and that is exactly what I did. Luckily, the middle and oldest were a huge help with the toddler. An endless supply of Yo Gabba Gabba and the movie Sing helped a bunch too!

By the end of this road trip, we were absolutely exhausted and over all the fast-paced traveling. The thought of getting in the car and driving even three hours was torturous. Vodka anyone?

Momma Going Broke

It was also getting expensive. Too expensive for my meager budget. We ended up eating out a lot more than I anticipated because we were always on the go and exhausted. Some destinations ended up blending together and we really didn’t get to appreciate each place the way we wanted to. I have absolutely no regrets. We made a ton of memories and I had more than our fair share of absolute meltdowns. I am happy to check Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio off the list of states to visit.

Switching it up to plane rides for the next month and then hitting the road again to Canada. Bring on the 20-degree weather!
